By Jesus Cisneros

In December 1932, 'Orfeo Lunar', a musical cabaret play loosely based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, premiered in Berlin. Various artists associated with the avant-garde of the Weimar Republic, which was already approaching its end, produced it. Almost all of the information about this unique work comes from the oral testimonies of those who attended the first and only performance. It became the inspiration for Spanish artist and illustrator Jesus Cisneros, whose collection of illustrations visits the imaginary landscapes created by artists such as George Grosz, Otto Dix, Kurt Weill, and Hanns Eisler. Half invented, half remembered, a sleepwalking parade of figures.
